NAGA CITY — The Metro Naga Development Council held a Power Sector Stakeholders Meeting on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the Summit Hotel in Naga City. Present were the Metro Naga Mayors, mainly Mayor Nelson Legacion of Naga City, Mayor Anthony Reyes of Milaor, Mayor Nelson Legaspi of Canaman, Mayor Tomas Bongalonta of Pili, representatives and members of the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI), Camarines Sur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI), and other stakeholders, and the media, including representatives from the Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative (CASURECO II).

Discussed were mostly the Show Cause Order issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission ordering CASURECO II to explain why it charged consumers beyond the supposed 2015 expiry of the power supply agreement with Masinloc Power Partners Co. Ltd., and the process regarding ERC’s order on the immediate refund of the said charges by the power supplier in question.

Several points have been made by stakeholders, officials, and CASURECO II representatives on ways on how to tackle ERC’s show cause order, and the reiteration of the submitted manifestations and documents to ERC explaining the legalities on why the electric cooperative continued charging consumers beyond the supposed 2015 expiry of the power supply agreement in question.

In so far as the discussion went, Mayor Legacion said that he was dissappointed on the outcome of the meeting on fast tracking the refund to consumers and resolution to the order issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

Mayor Anthony Reyes, in turn, said that consumers should wait on the outcome of the ERC decision as CASURECO II had already filed an explanation with the ERC, with CASURECO II General Manager Emelita Candia already in Manila discussing with the cooperative’s legal counsel on the best recourse on how to handle ERC’s show cause order against the electric cooperative and its power supplier.
