SpaceX’s Starlink will soon hit the air, rather, spacewaves in the Philippines as it’s set to launch in the country in an announcement by the Department of Trade and Industry.
This would mean that the Philippines will be the first Southeast Asian country to have Starlink internet service and would bolster connectivity across the archipelago, especially in locations with either poor or no mobile signal and no wired infrastructure from the telcos.
The Department of Trade and Industry further said that preparations are now underway for Starlink’s registration and a wholly owned subsidiary for operations here on Philippine soil.
Starlink’s pre-orders are pegged at $99 (around Php 5,000) with equipment costing around $499 (around Php 25,000) and a monthly fee of $99 (around Php 5,000).
